At that time our primary focus was to provide safe affordable housing to young women moving into the area from rural communities in order to secure employment. And although the needs of the women we serve have changed greatly since then, our commitment to addressing women’s needs has never faltered. Today we are the area’s largest provider of supportive housing for women and their children. Women come to the YWCA for a variety of reasons and from a variety of situations. We provide safe and affordable, supportive housing in our downtown Troy building and in a number of apartment that we rent throughout the community. Our building has 76 single-room occupancy units, 14 transitional housing units for chronically-homeless women and their children, and four family apartments. Currently we rent seven off-site community apartments. At any given time we have 25-40 women on our housing waiting list. In any given year we serve approximately 300 women and children.
