Run by CARES Inc, Housing Assistance Program is funded by the NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute through Title II of the Ryan White Care Act Legislation.
The Housing Assistance Program assists individuals who are HIV positive, and, in some cases, have additional disabilities, in finding and maintaining stable housing. Housing assistance services are not limited to persons who are homeless, but are available to those who are at risk of homelessness or interested in housing alternatives.
Services include assessment, search, placement and advocacy services related to local, state and federal housing programs as well as private landlords. CARES links people with case management and other housing related services as needed. Assistance in accessing programs that pay for a portion of housing costs is also provided.
CARES also has limited funding to provide participants in the program with one-time only assistance with essential household items such as housing start-up kits associated with initial placement in an apartment (i.e. dishes and utensils, sheets and towels) when they cannot be obtained from other sources.
For more information on the application process, please contact the CARES Inc. Housing Placement Specialist, Joel Holl at (518) 489-4130 ext. 107 or via e-mail at jholl@caresny.org.
